Eyelash Extension Certification in Iowa
Eyelash extensions are done to enhance the length, fullness, curl, and thickness of natural eyelashes. To get certified in Iowa for eyelash extensions, the requirements are as follows.
LICENSE
You must have a cosmetics license to become a certified eyelash stylist. The license is issued by the Iowa Board of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.
COSMETOLOGY SCHOOL
Attending a cosmetology school meets the educational requirements for a cosmetology license. The school must be approved by the Board of Directors and you must complete 2100 hours there. Visit the board website for a list of approved cosmetology schools.
The cosmetology school gives you both practical and theoretical classes and prepares you for the exam license and career as a cosmetologist.
NIC COSMETOLOGY EXAM
You must pass the National-Interstate Council Cosmetology Exam in Iowa. You must achieve at least 75% to qualify for licensing. The exam consists of two sections:
- The National Written Examination in Cosmetology (90)
- The national practical exam in cosmetology (3 hours)
The written exam contains multiple choice questions. A practical test will assess your ability.
SUBMIT LICENSE
In the practical test you have to do the following:
- Submit a complete and board-approved cosmetology application.
- Submit a $60 cosmetology application fee
- Submit your official diploma or certificates from the cosmetology school
- Official results of the NIC exam
After the application has been approved, you will receive the license.
RENEW LICENSE
In Iowa, the cosmetic license expires two years from the date of issue. After that, the license must be renewed. The extension period begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st. You will receive a renewal notice in the mail at least 60 days before the expiration date and then you must renew your license before that time.
In order to renew the license, you must complete further training. This continuing education will not only allow you to renew the license, but will also help you learn cutting-edge techniques that will keep your customers happy. You must complete at least eight credit hours per semi-annual renewal cycle. The following are the requirements for credit hours:
- At least four hours must be in the discipline of cosmetology
- At least two hours must be within the content range of Iowa cosmetic rules, laws, and sanitation procedures.
