To get a license in cosmetology, you will have to meet the educational standards. You can get the training from beauty school. You have also the second option of applying for a cosmetology apprenticeship license by completing on-the-job training.

You have to attend a cosmetology school to make you eligible for the PSI exam and apply for the license. You have to complete at least 1500 hours in a minimum of nine months.

In Georgia, PSI is administered the exam for the master cosmetologist. When you are eligible, you can contact PSI to take the exam. The cost of exams is $109.  Master cosmetology exam has two portions:

  1. Master cosmetology practical exam

Through this exam, your clinical and practical skills are assessed. You have to complete the exam within 140 minutes.

  1. NIC cosmetology theory exam

Theory exams can be taken online. This exam is based on multiple-choice questions. To complete the exam, you will be given 90 minutes.

After completing education and examination requirements, you can move on to submit your application for the cosmetology license. You will submit this application to the Georgia Board of cosmetology. The application can be submitted online or physically along with citizenship verification and application for initial licensure. The fee for the application is $30.

If you want to apply through reciprocity, you have to provide verification that you have fulfilled similar training and license requirements. After providing complete documents, if the Georgia board approves it then you will receive a cosmetology license.

Master cosmetology license expires on 31 March of even-numbered years. During each two-year renewal period, you have to complete five hours of continued education to keep your license current. The education includes:

  • TCSG health and safety (Three credit hours)
  • Any elective (two credit hours)

After having a cosmetology license, you can get training to get a certificate in eyelash extensions. In Georgia, this is 4-day training. It is comprised of two courses:

Each course has two days of training. After this, you will be given the certificate.

Although getting an eyelash extensions certificate is not an easy task but if you are interested and want to run your salon in Georgia, you can do it. So encourage yourself and demonstrate your skills.
